2010 Vacation Bible School August 16th-20th (9AM-12Noon) Parent’s Information (contact: David Oskandy) Here’s what you should know! Elementary children will be placed in mixed-age groups with other children who have finished kindergarten through grade 5. The Pre-school Crews ages 3 thru 5 will also be placed together in similar mixed age groups. These small groups, called Crews, are led by experienced older youth who love children and love the Lord. Studies show children learn as much- or more –and they choose to play with children when they are linked with kids of different ages. Parents should encourage their child(ren) to try something different – he or she may be surprised!
Crews are important part of High Seas Expedition! Here’s why.
Kids develop new friendships. –Your child(ren) will have many wonderful opportunities to make new friends which will carry them over into the new school year. Older Kids shine – Parents are continually surprised that after a few days of VBS, their older children love this new found role! Suddenly, they’re the “cool” big kids with younger kids looking up to them. And while your child is helping younger kids with simple tasks like reading and writing, he or she is having a chance to serve and demonstrate Christ’s love! It’s a meaningful way to discover-and practice-the joy of service. Younger kids are cared for. – The games during High Seas Expedition are noncompetitive, team building activities (brilliantly designed as wildly fun games) in which your child’s ability will shine. In fact many games are designed to highlight the importance of younger kids. Bible lessons are more memorable. - Kids will experience Bible stories in powerful, life-changing ways. And that’s something kids of all ages will enjoy… and remember. The crew leaders gather with kids for small-group discussion. The discussion questions apply to every child and the responses are very genuine. A question such as, “When have you needed comfort?” might be answered with “During a scary storm”(by a younger child) and/or “When my friends say mean things” (from an older child). The parent’s attitude. The most important factor in making this program an exciting experience for your child(ren) is your attitude. If your child has doubts, reassure her or him that this is a wonderful opportunity to try something new. Your support will speak volumes to the children we’re serving.

HELP FEED OUR VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL (VBS) CREWS IN AUGUST We’re *gathering a boatload of snack supplies to feed all the hungry kids who come to our High Seas Expedition VBS during the week of August 16th-20th. The next time you’re at the grocery store, drop a few of the items listed below into your cart, then bring them to church by Sunday August 8th. This is a wonderful way to be part of the VBS fun this summer.
* When items are received they will be checked off on the display board down in the main hall.
We’re also gathering materials needed for this year’s High Seas Expedition VBS during the week of August 16th-20th. Check out the kids room, the garage the cellar and see if you have some of the items below that we need. It would be a great help to the VBS leadership team. The items can either be donated or loaned. We will get them back to you! See the list below or the display in the Main Hall. Please bring them to church as soon as possible so that we do not have to plan on purchasing these items. This is another wonderful way to be part of the VBS fun this summer.
* When items are received they will be checked off on the display board down in the main hall. |
