Job Description
The Director of Youth Ministry will guide our youth in the areas of study, worship, mission, recreation and participation in the life of the congregation. To be successful, the Director of Youth Ministry will be inspirational, at times lighthearted, with an obvious dedication towards his or her commitment to guiding our youth in Christ’s ways.
Responsibilities are subject to review and adjustment in conjunction with Pastoral Relations and the supervising Pastor of First Congregational Church of Bethel (FCCB).
The Director of Youth Ministry will: · Implement and coordinate an innovative, challenging, and comprehensive program of Christian education for middle school and senior high youth, so that our young adults are inspired and motivated to have a relationship with Christ, which is reflected in their lives. · Work with the Senior High and Junior High Youth Group Advisors, assist in planning youth activities, and advocate and initiate youth involvement in FCCB’s ministry, mission and service opportunities · Participate (or Lead/Organize as appropriate) in special youth events (e.g., Youth Sunday, Annual Mission trip, Pancake breakfast, Spaghetti dinner, etc.) · Develop programs to include youth from the wider Bethel community including, but not limited to, special inter-faith events · Be aware of and encourage active involvement with Silver Lake Conference Center, promote our youths’ involvement with the Conference programs and consider volunteering as a Conference counselor or dean. · Identify opportunities for youth participation in Outreach and Fundraising event(s) · Provide resource and general support to preschool thru 5th grade by working with the Board of Christian Education to develop church school curriculum and provide support and training to the teaching staff and lay volunteers as necessary · Work with the Board of Christian Education as they plan the annual Vacation Bible School and Christmas Pageant. Be an active participant in both programs. · Oversee the FCCB Safe Child program · Prepare quarterly goals and review progress on the goals with the Senior Pastor and Pastoral Relations (as appropriate) · Be a member of the Ministry Team and report to the Senior Pastor
Qualifications: · Must enjoy new challenges, be a program leader, and have the ability to build excitement and interest in the youth program. · Must have experience working with youth and children. · Strong administrative and management skills (ability to develop and communicate a youth program vision for FCCB) · Able to build strong relationships (must work closely with the Senior Pastor and the other church boards and be able to develop relationships with other youth-based organizations in the Bethel community) · Strong communication skills with both children and adults with an emphasis on communicating strong morals and values. · Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience with youth accepted
