Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper 2/17
Youth Fundraiser Dinner!
The Season of Lent is upon us!
Let us prepare for the season of reflection with a Shrove/Fat Tuesday feast of pancakes. Pancakes are one of the traditional ways to clean out the pantry in preparation for Lent.
Your support helps make the Summer Sr. High Youth Service Trip possible.
Free Will Offering at the dinner. Pancakes and sides are served 5:30 - 6:30 pm. All are welcome!
You are also invited to Ash Wednesday, Ashes-to-Go outside Molten Java on Wednesday, Feb. 18th 7 - 9 am.

Start your Ash Wednesday with a blessing, ashes, and preparing your heart for the season of Lent. We'll be outside to offer you ashes, or a blessing.
Don't forget to grab a coffee from Molten Java while you're here. Hosted by First Congregational Church of Bethel, UCC, Bethel United Methodist Church, and St. Thomas Episcopal Church.
All traditions are invited to receive ashes.
Adult Faith Formation - Book Study
Join us for our Lenten Book Study, Adult Faith Formation. We will meet on Zoom from 7 to 8:30 pm, Wednesdays 2/18, 2/25, 3/4, 3/11, 3/18, 3/25 (and more if needed) during Lent.
We will read "So you want to talk about race" by Ileoma Oluo.
Everyone is invited to join in this time of conversation, reflection, learning, community and faith. You are invited to pick up a copy on your own. If you need assistance acquiring the book, please talk to Pastor Ryan.
Clean God's House

Want to give back? This is another great way to give thanks to God. We’ll spruce up the church building as we journey through Lent together. Join us Saturday, March 7th. We’ll begin cleaning at 9 am and continue until a shared lunch. Everyone is invited. There is something for everyone to do of all abilities and skill levels.
You can also find a Project Card on the table in the entry near the offices. If you want to start early or can’t join on the 7th, select a card, fill out the form, and go to it.

FCCB Drive-By Corned Beef Dinner
Saturday, March 14th
Join us on Saturday, March 14, 2026 for a St. Patrick's Day Corned Beef Dinner! Each delicious dinner features corned beef, Irish style potatoes, cabbage, root vegetables, a wedge of soda bread, and a signature dessert!
This year, you have the option to either order your dinners for curbside pick up, which will be between 4 and 5 pm on the 14th, or join us in person for dinner in the church's Fellowship Hall (lower level) between 5:30 and 7 pm.
You MUST order your dinner(s) in advance by Thursday, March 12th. Dinners are $25 each, and you can request tickets for purchase by calling the church office at 203-743-1877.
Drive-by Palm Distribution
Saturday, March 28th
Join us for an afternoon of fellowship & fun as we pass out Palms to passersby near First Congregational Church of Bethel. We will pass out Palms beginning at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 28, 2026, until they are gone. Youth especially are invited to join in the fun. After all the palms are passed out youth will have more fun activities & Service Project preparation for Bethel Earth Day.

Maundy Thursday Service: 7 pm

You are invited to an evening service of Holy Communion and Tenebrae on Thursday, April 2nd. We begin the service at 7 pm. All are welcome to receive Communion, no matter your tradition. We will leave the service in darkness and quiet.
Good Friday Cross Walk & Lunch

Ecumenical Good Friday – Stations of the Cross Walk & Lunch beginning at 12 on April 3rd outside Molten Java, 213 Greenwood Avenue.
On Good Friday, April 3rd, you are invited to journey through the heart of Bethel as we walk our faith and take part in the ancient practice of the Stations of the Cross. Beginning at 12 noon at 213 Greenwood Avenue (Molten Java) and finishing at First Congregational Church of Bethel, with a light lunch to follow.

First Church Bethel will again have a booth at the Bethel CT Pride Celebration and take part in the Parade on Saturday, May 30th. This is another wonderful opportunity to share God’s extravagant love and to share the love, kindness, and grace of Jesus. Everyone is welcome to join us at the booth and in the parade. Celebrate the Light of God, the Prince of Peace, Love of God, Immanuel-God with Us, coming in the world as we celebrate the coming of the Christ Child. Everyone is welcome to join us for the Christmas Eve Family service at 4 pm.
Christmas Eve Choir Practice Nov. 9, 23, 30, Dec. 21
Do you love singing? Do you want to make a joyful noise? Whichever it is you, you are invited to share your voice and sing in the Christmas Eve Choir. Rehearsal will be Nov. 9, 23, 30, Dec. 21 after worship. All ability levels are welcome. The Christmas Eve Service is Dec 24th at 4 PM. Plan to arrive early on Christmas Eve for warm up.
Advent Devotional Symbol Thursdays 10 AM 12/4, 12/11, 12/18
The Christmas Season (Advent) is busy and full. You are invited to settle for a moment and center yourself on the Prince of Peace. We will gather for 3 Thursdays at 10 AM (12/4, 11, 18). Everyone is welcome to join. It will be a unique brief service in the Deacons Chapel (~30min). The Deacons Chapel is a beautiful simple small space in the church balcony. The service will likely be streamed on the Church Facebook page. Apologies: the Deacons Chapel is not ADA accessible.
Blue Christmas Service, Wednesday, 12/17 at 7 PM
Everyone is invited to experience this Special Service. A Blue Christmas Service is a unique service that acknowledges not everything is always Merry and Bright during the Christmas season. A time to reflect on the complexity of the season with lost loved ones, life not always being what you imagined, and knowing sometimes the Christmas Season is just hard. Bring your whole self, be present, and know that God meets you where you are and just as you are this Advent and Christmas Season. You are invited to this unique Christmas Service on Wednesday, December 17th at 7 PM.
Sweater Sunday -- Ugly/Fun/Favorite/Silly --Wear your Sweater to Worship on Sunday, December 14th at 10 AM
The 3rd Sunday in Advent (12/14) is ‘Joy’. We light the pink candle of ‘Joy’. Let us share in Joy by having some fun in worship. Wear your ‘best’ sweater to worship. It could be your best ‘Ugly’ sweater. It could be your ‘best’ favorite sweater. Or somewhere in between. Lights and moving attachments welcome. Let us join in the Joy of the season on Sunday, December 14th with your Ugly/Fun/Favorite/Silly sweater.
Christmas Pageant at FCCB on Sunday, Dec. 14th
Christmas Pageant! You heard right, FCCB is having a Christmas Pageant for the first time since before COVID. All children and youth are invited to take part in the pageant. Just show up and you can be an angel, shepherd, sheep, and more. We’d love to have you take part in the rehearsal on Sunday, December 7th during 10 AM worship as well, but not required. See you for an amazing worship service & Christmas Pageant on Sunday, Dec. 14th at 10 AM.
Advent Chrismon Event Sunday 12/7 after Worship
Everyone is invited to this fun All Ages Event, Sunday, Dec. 7th, after worship. Chrismons are ornaments in the shape of Christian symbols, usually in gold and white. There are angels, doves, crosses, anchors, and so very much more. It will be a wonderful time of fellowship, fun, faith, and Christmas! See you then.
Annual Pot Roast Dinner, Saturday, December 6, 2025

Hanging of the Greens Service
The Hanging of the Greens Service is a powerful worship service, in which we read scriptures of the Advent Season, sing, and decorate the sanctuary and explore the meaning of the familiar holiday decorations. Don’t miss this meaningful lay led service on Sunday, Nov. 23rd at 10 AM.
Community Thanksgiving Service

You are invited to gather with Bethel area churches for a Service of Thanksgiving, on Sunday, Nov. 23rd at 4 PM at The First Congregational Church of Bethel, UCC. This is a community service of Thanksgiving, celebrating the abundance of God’s grace and love. The service will include incredible music, with an Ecumenical Choir, and messages from the Pastors at BUMC, St. Thomas, & FCCB.
You are also invited to bring a non-perishable food item for the local Food Pantry.

Blessing of the Animals

Bring your beloved creature for a blessing. Pastor Ryan will offer a blessing over your furry, fuzzy, hairy, scaly, feathered Dear Ones. You are also welcome to bring a picture if that is easier or safer.
All are welcome for this Holy Moment. Please have your pet on a leash or in an appropriate carrier for their safety, and for the safety of every creature gathered.

This is a blessing for our young people on their school year ahead, as well as for all adults on the year ahead. Outdoor Worship on the Lawn June 30th &
August 18th
This summer we will worship outside on the Lawn at First Church Bethel on June 30th & August 18th at 10 am. You are welcome to bring a comfortable chair or use ours. Wear your comfortable clothes and immerse yourself in creation as we celebrate the unconditional Love of God.
The rain/bad weather date will be the following Sunday 7/7 & 8/25 if needed. We'll post on the church Facebook page and email the church if there is a needed change.

All Church Picnic Sunday, June 8th
You are invited to the all Church Picnic & Potluck at FCCB. During worship at 10 am we will say Thank You to our amazing life changing Sunday School Leaders as we conclude Sunday School program for the School Year.
After Worship, join us for fun on the Church Lawn! Everyone is invited to bring something for the Potluck or just bring yourself. Hot Dogs and Hamburgers will be provided by the church. There will be a sign up to bring items for the potluck.

Church World Service Hygiene Kits
We are putting our faith in action. On March 10th, we will assemble our Church World Service Hygiene Kits. CWS distributes the kits around the world to communities in need. You can be a part of making the transition after disaster more bearable. You can drop off your hygiene kit items at church on Sunday or during the week. Everyone is welcome to help assemble the kits.
